Before you book
Six questions.
Every room.
- What the hourly rate coversAsk whether an engineer is included or billed separately, and whether setup and bouncing count against your hours.
- Minimums and blocksA lot of rooms sell two-, four- or eight-hour blocks. Know the minimum before you plan a one-song session.
- Deposit and cancellationGet the deposit amount, the cancellation window and what happens if you run late, in writing, before you pay anything.
- What you walk out withA rough bounce, vocal stems, or the full session files? Say which you need, and in what format, when you book, not at the end of the night.
- Bring the beat rightBring a WAV of the instrumental, plus stems if you have them, at the producer’s sample rate. An MP3 off a YouTube upload costs you mix quality you can’t get back.
- Paper the splits before you leaveIf anyone else in the room wrote or produced, fill out a split sheet while everyone is still there.
